What is MotorCityRock.com? |
|
| |
MotorCityRock.com is a website
dedicated to the preservation of Detroit's local music scene of the 1980's.
The site consists of an extensive library of bands, musicians and venues
that were part of an often-overlooked musical period. |

Why was MotorCityRock.com needed? |
|
| |
|
In March of 2003, I spent some time searching
around the internet looking for information on Detroit's music scene of the
80's. Sadly, there was very little to be found. There were quite
a few links to sites that focused on the 60's and 70's, but nothing that
concentrated on the scene that I remember (and was part of). I
originally proposed the concept for a website on the
LoveToHate Yahoo! Forum on 3/17/03 (you need to join to view), and on the Michiganbands.com Message
Board on 3/25/03. The initial response was good and most everyone
agreed that a website devoted to the 80's scene was long overdue. On
3/27/03, MotorCityRock.com was launched with 75 bands and 35 venues. |

What can I find on MotorCityRock.com? |
|
| |
|
80's-era Musicians, Bands, Gig History's,
Venues, Photographs, Flyers, Artwork, Downloadable MP3's and Video, Current
Band Updates, Concert Calendar, Message Forums and other things from the
Detroit Local Music Scene of the 80's. |

Where does the information come from? |
|
| |
|
Everything on MotorCityRock.com has been
contributed by visitors to the site. The original list of bands and
venues came from memory (along with my collection of vintage flyers,
tickets and news clippings). The rest have been contributed via
. |

What about the bands from the 90's...and
beyond? |
|
| |
|
MotorCityRock.com's focus is the 1980's local
scene in Detroit, an era that has had very little presence on the internet.
Many of the musicians and bands from the 90's are still
active and there are several websites that feature them. It should be
noted that there are many bands on MotorCityRock.com that were active in
both the 80's and 90's (or 70's and 80's). In those instances, the entire band history is
presented. |
|
| |
A5. |
Is the information presented verified to
be accurate? |
|
| |
|
No. I assume that everything submitted
for listing is accurate since it's often very difficult for me to confirm.
There are inaccuracies that crop up from time to time. If you notice errors,
point them out and I'll make the necessary corrections. |

Does MotorCityRock.com make money? |
|
| |
|
No. It cost me money. There are no commercial advertisements on MotorCityRock.com and there is no charge to view the site or to download the audio and video files. |

The MotorCityRock.com Listings |
|
| |
B1. |
How is the information presented on
MotorCityRock.com? |
|
| |
|
There are two main types of listings on
MotorCityRock.com, Bands and Venues. The Bands
and Venues are listed in alphabetical order, and can be
accessed from the Bands page. Both types of
listings are designed very similar: |
|
| |
|
 |
|
| |
|
The band's name is listed just above it's
photograph. Just below the photo are any other names the band has
used, as well as links to other related band links on MotorCityRock.com. To
right of the photo is a list of all the musicians that are known to have
been in the band, and what instrument they played. Below the
photograph is the Gig History table, which lists dates and venues of all
verifiable performances. There is a column that lists the other bands
that played (if known), and any other brief notes. Next to that is the
info column. This is a link to photos, flyers, audio, video or
anything else on MotorCityRock.com for that performance. In most
cases, all information listed links to other sections of MotorCityRock.com.
The last row of the table lists the names of those who contributed the
information on the listing. If you have additional contributions to a
listing, or would like to point out errors, you'll find a link just below
the Gig History table. The far-right column will have links to band
photographs, audio, video or any other contributed memorabilia, if
available. The far-left column of all pages contain links to other
main sections of MotorCityRock.com. |

I've got loads of 80's-area memorabilia
and information...how do I contribute? |
|
| |
|
It's easy. E-mail everything to
.
Technical details can be found on the contribute
page. If you have an enormous amount of large files, e-mail me first
and we'll set something up. |

Who owns MotorCityRock.com?
Who is JP? |
|
| |
John Patrick. I
received my first guitar for Christmas in 1979, and one year later joined my
first band. That band, Illusion,
began playing bars in Detroit soon after. I also played with
Tarot and
Dying Breed (among others) later
in the 80's, but always a remained a member of
Illusion in some way. In
fact, we're working on our third first full-length CD and still play clubs
frequently. Come check us out sometime... |
